I really think Covid has slowed this process. I’ll be buying the “Oh Crap” book and applying that method. I feel like such a failure.Įdit: Thank you for all of the kind words. He starts preschool in September and I’m just panicking about what to do. No kids his age to help see that this is the norm, no play groups, no classes, etc. But thanks to Covid, we’re home almost all of the time. He rarely has an accident out and is much more willing to use the potty in public (probably because he knows he doesn’t want to cause a scene). Oddly he does seem to do better when we’re out of the house. I feel like it’s all we can think about and our day revolves around it. He’s told us maybe 2-3 times total but is averaging 7 accidents/ day. We told him we weren’t going to ask, we weren’t going to take him to the potty and he had to tell us when he had to go.

Sometimes he’s fine with it, but he’ll often throw fits.Ī week ago my husband and I decided we just wanted to release all of the motivation to him. A lot of our days is just trying to get him to sit on the potty. We are super positive and give lots of praise. We use incentives that he’s excited about, but also could care less if he doesn’t get it. I don’t think being wet is uncomfortable to him and I’m not even sure he can feel the sensation of needing to pee. I can count on one hand the number of days he’s been dry all day. Or he sits, says he doesn’t have to go and then pees in his underwear 5mins later. He’ll often go, but still pee a little in his pants beforehand.

We take him to the potty in regular intervals. We’ll see that his pants are wet but he won’t say anything. He has never once in that time told us he needed to use the potty or that he had an accident. We did the 3-day potty training 6 months ago and he’s been in underwear ever since (only wears diapers to bed). My husband and I are just at a loss for what to do.
